I am using Windows 7 and I wasn't crazy about it to begin with. I'm getting used to it now. I have Vista on my work lap top and never had any problems with it.

There are always issues with on Windows7, for example I just found out the reason I can't watch youtub vids is because I was using IE64 bit, you have to use IE32 bit. I discovered the answer to my problem on the MS website.

The security controls are worse than Vista and more difficult to get rid of. IMO I prefer Vista, maybe others have not had the issues I've had.

But hey, that's the fun of computing right? :)

I'm having another problem now. I'm not sure if its Windows 7 because I blame everything on that, :) while watching youtube vids or any type of vid it keeps buffering. Its very annoying, to the point, I'll just close the window. It will play for a second or two, buffer for 5 seconds, play again for a few seconds then buffer. I changed my security options, uninstalled my virus protection just to see if that made a difference and it doesn't. If I use 64 bit I can't view at all, if I use IE32 it will play, but I have to deal with the buffering. Any suggestions?

Thanks for this very detailed and useful review Chris. I am still using XP in fear that Windows 7 will be totally the same as the ones already out in the market but you have proven me wrong, so I'm heading for the switch!

Still on vista myself. New laptop next year is on the cards which will come with 7 or whatevers out at the time.

Rick I am not convinced that the new version of Vista is better, to make an expense. I am not planning to buy a new computer in a nearest future anyway. I guess I am stuck with Vista for now. LOL

I'm still on XP......i've made it a rule to not upgrade until Service Pack 2 is out on any platform LOL Let someone else be the guinea pig!!

lol Tim, good point that. With operating systems getting more complex the more vulnerable they will become particularly in their early stages

If you are using Win 7 or Vista are you as vunerable to that google redirect virus??? I have the stupid thing and can't get rid of it. Maybe it is time to upgrade??? lol :(

Have had windows 7 for over a year now. Really enjoying it more than any other windows. Last time I like a windows OS this much was 98.

Yes, I got that damned redirect virus. (still no clue how) BUT, the wonderful thing about Win7, is that (using the partition) you can format and reinstall a clean version.
Took me over 4 months to find one disc I needed (so old no one sells it any more). So even though I had cleaned up majority of the virus, it still messed with me, and di some good damage to files. But it couldn't touch the install, and the clean slate has been a life saver.

That was one thing I LOVED about 98, you could format and install as often as you wanted, same with windows 7!

Guys, after my computer died I had no option other than using Windows 7 with the new computer. I can not tell you whether I like it better than Vista, but I have an issue with W/7. I did not like Windows Live Mail that came with W/7. It's loaded with a stuff I will never use (conversations and such).
Anyway... my point is... if any of you got Windows 7 and unhappy with Windows Live Mail like me, remember a free e-mail program "Mozilla Thunderbird". It looks and works pretty much like Windows Mail. I love it.

MomAries, I very seldom use any default programs windows, and WAY back in the day discovered Pegasus mail.

That said ... I did find after much playing, windows live mail was much more customizable than past windows mails. If you really enjoyed outlook, you could give live another chance, it can be tweeked.

Windows 7 still doesn’t impress me. I’ll stick with Ubuntu 9.10. The only useful feature I would want in linux that Windows 7 has is Aero Snap. But you can actually do the same thing with Windows XP: just right click on the task bar and select “Tile Windows Vertically”.

And when Gnome 3 finally comes out (http://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell) Linux will be the most advanced and useful OS on the planet. Not to mention the cheapest.
