I would like to dump VB4 and move to XenForo as soon as possible... the only holdup is Addonchat... I would rather not use a different chat service, as Addonchat has been GREAT.

This is a new one to me. Do they offer a module/plugin API that we can look at? If so, do you by any chance have a link to it?

+1 for XF cant make the switch without this. Ive got my licenses and already moved one forum over, But members of another forum will lead a revolt if i move to XF before i can wrap chat into the XF package.

OK - I'll pick up a license today and take a look :) Looks like their software is getting very popular, very fast. If it's anything like vBulletin modules, we should be able to get something out fairly quick :)

Oh its definately not... I'm the author of three huge mods for XenForo and its very different than vBulletin. Mod writing is very hard to approach in XenForo, but in the long run its a LOT easier because of it's object oriented design.

Good - I actually prefer the OOP approach for modules. Just downloaded, will have a look after the upcoming holiday. Now I just need to hope they have better documentation than vBulletin ;)

Since you're familiar with the software, would you mind providing a little help should I need it? :)

Sure, I would be glad to help... there are several people you can ask on the XenForo forums for advice... myself, King Kovifor, Floris and ragtek to name a few. Since XenForo is still beta, there is a lack of documentation, but we're getting first hand help from Kier himself. He reads the forums and answers our questions regularly. In fact, they plan to make the mod community a direct part of the .COM website.

Wonderful - and thank you! I'm anxious to get started!

AddonChat v9.0 is still my primary focus, but this will make an excellent side project :)

I've purchased the software, and it's on my desktop.

Any progress on XenForo integration?

I'm ready to move my forum to XenForo... except Addonchat is the holdup...

Jaxel your lucky i still need AddonChat, a Gallery and a Joomla Bridge. If AddonChat becomes available for XF before the Joomla Bridge i may begin to start looking at Word Press.. All i know is i want to move away from vB yesterday..

Give it a little time - this definitely won't happen over night. Forum integration requires us to be very familiar with the XenForo API before we even begin. The integration itself can be fairly complex too; we have to tie into various templates, a user privilege system, and do a fair amount of testing to ensure everything works properly.

I will keep you informed of progress, but my guess is we won't see a public release Beta until at least early January.

Well remember that I wrote all my own mods...

I wrote my Media Library, Portal, Event System, and even my own Wiki for XenForo!

Okay... for reasons I can't explain right now, I was forced to upgrade my site to XenForo sooner than expected... you can see how AWESOME XenForo is here: http://www.8wayrun.com/portal/

We're forced to use Mibbit IRC right now since Addonchat isn't an option... my members are already complaining and are already yelling at me to get Addonchat back. Also, they are wondering if there will ever be a NON-JAVA solution.

Also, is there any way I can get my AddonChat account put on hold until the XenForo client comes out? I'm paid for a year of AddonChat, and since I wont be using it anytime soon, I would rather not my time go to waste.

Jaxel,

XenForo does indeed look very nice. With respect to your AddonChat question, we do already offer a non-Java based mobile client, and in fact I've already begun procuring hardware to provide a JavaScript based client for PCs. No ETA on that at all - we're in preparation mode only.

With respect to your request, eMail support@addonchat.com with your request, ask for Chris, and we'll see what we can do for you :)

Any word on XenForo integration? Using IRC in the meantime is driving me up the wall.

Is Mibbit the only choice to use on your forums? Is there not way to add a link for an addonchat - even the free version - while you wait for full integration?

Just wondering. :)

I also had to make the move away from vB sooner then i would have liked to due the huge amount of resources it took to run my vB4 community suite. My server was crashing a couple times a week.. A few of my members have moved to other related communities with a chat option.. But for the most part my regular chatters are now getting more active on the forums.. So im starting to think i can do without a chat solution.. However i have to say my time with AddonChat was by far the best experience ive ever had with any other chat plugin. So i think ill be happy to give it another shot when it does come available for XF, but still mostly undecided..

This is in no way AddonChats fault, but knowing my subscription is expiring and i cant use what i payed for is leaving a bit of a sour taste in my mouth..

SMF would be good --- many many hosting accounts provide free SMF...
